T-Mobile Activates 988, the new Mental Health Crisis Lifeline

T-Mobile today became the first major wireless provider to launch 988, the new three-digit emergency number for those in need of free mental health support. Dialing the number connects you directly to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, a network of approximately 180 crisis centers staffed by professionally trained counselors. The FCC formally established 988 in July of this year and will require all telecommunications carriers to support it by July 2022.
