Motorola Defy is the First Fruit of the Company's Partnership with Bullitt

Earlier this year, Motorola announced a partnership with Bullitt to make a new range of rugged phones. On the FCC web site, a new phone has become public that seems to be the first product of that relationship. The Motorola Defy has a unique design with a single sharp corner that serves as a lanyard attachment. FCC documents reveal several details of this unannounced phone. It's powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 chip and a 5,000 mAh non-removable battery. Its triple rear cameras include macro and depth cameras. It has Motorola's signature fingerprint reader integrated with the Motorola logo on the back. It also has NFC, dual-band Wi-Fi, a memory card slot, and a headset jack on top. The right side features a programmable shortcut button, in addition to volume and lock buttons. The only two variants approved so far are not optimized for US networks, (they don't support LTE in band 12,) so Motorola and Bullitt may be targeting other markets around the world, at least initially. Motorola made different phone called the Defy back in 2010, and two years later, the Defy XT.

Motorola Adds 5G to the Moto G Stylus

Motorola today announced the moto g stylus 5G, a version of this year's moto g stylus with 5G and a larger battery, for $400. The new 5G model has excellent support for all 5G and 4G networks in the US, (except mmWave 5G.) The battery has been bumped up from 4,000 mAh to a whopping 5,000 mAh. The 5G model has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 chipset instead the Snapdragon 678 in the 4G model. Although the 480 is a 4-series chip, it's newer than the 678 and offers similar performance. The 48 megapixel main camera offers access to the full 48 megapixel resolution, and the fingerprint reader is located on the back instead of the side. Other specs and features are similar to the 4G model, including a huge 6.8-inch full-HD display, wide camera, macro camera, 16 megapixel selfie camera, fast charging, memory card slot, and headset jack. Xiaomi's Mi Mix Fold is First Phone with a Liquid Lens

Xiaomi today announced its first foldable phone, the Mi Mix Fold. The phone is also the first in the world to use Liquid Lens technology on one of its cameras. The Liquid Lens consists of transparent fluid wrapped in film. The radius of curvature of the spherical surface can be accurately changed thanks to a high-precision motor. This enables one 8 megapixel camera to serve as both a 3x optical zoom telephoto camera as well as a macro camera that can focus at a distance of 3cm. Philips first announced liquid lenses for phones in 2004, followed by Varioptic in 2006. Varioptic and partner Seiko even announced manufacturing ramp-up of two specific models of liquid lenses designed for phones in 2008. But none of these made it to shipping phones at the time.
