Earlier this fall, at Meta's Connect event, Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the company's intentions to integrate AI features, such as a new AI assistant and AI stickers, across Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The latest development in this plan is the introduction of a shortcut feature in WhatsApp, enabling quick access to AI-powered chats directly from the Chats tab.

FTC Drops Antitrust Suit Against Qualcomm

The US Federal Trade Commission has decided not to appeal its antitrust case against Qualcomm to the US Supreme Court, effectively ending the matter in Qualcomm's favor. The FTC sued in 2017, claiming that the way Qualcomm links the sales of baseband processors with patent licensing amounts to anticompetitive behavior and unfair business practices. Similar lawsuits have been successful in South Korea, China, and Europe, and the FTC won its case initially. However Qualcomm appealed and prevailed last year. Google Fit Gains Heart Rate, Respiratory Rate Measurement via Camera

A forthcoming update to Google Fit will allow the app to measure heart rate and respiratory rate using only a phone's camera. The update will be available next month. The feature will be available first for Pixel phones, "with plans to expand to more Android devices." To measure respiratory rate, the camera looks at your head and upper torso to detect "tiny physical signals at the pixel level — like chest movements". To measure heart rate, the user places their finger on the camera lens so the app can measure "subtle changes in the color of your fingers".
